It says under the bonnet on a sticker, in England we use 10w40, I'm sure Darrell will post a viscosity chart in a minute, I'd have thought it would be the same for .

I would say 10w/40 should be fine

I think the one Ive bought is 50W-20.....is that going to be ok???

It was the only option at the local garage......guy asked whether it was diesel or petrol, I said petrol then he said right, this one. I asked for the 40-10 and he said, that the only one they had was 50-20 and that it was ok.....

Should it be okay? How much should I add?? a little and then check the oil and if I need more add more? Should it be filled up?

I mean when you check the oil, should it be up to the line that reads F for full?

Cheers!!

Have images of engine, will post later!

Take it back and tell him he was wrong, a 20W-50 isn't really suitable.

Remember jmods is in the Seychelles, not cold and damp Blighty, so he won't have any cold start concerns.

Well going by the chart I would say that oil is suitable given your climate. http://www.visualitineraries.com/articl ... helles.asp
As regards the level just add oil, leave 30 seconds and recheck level, repeat until oil level is at the F mark.

We don't generally use that oil over here because in the winter we can regularly be below freezing.
Not this winter, it's blooming rained all the time.
Lovely out today though

Darrell, thanks a million for confirmation! Ill go ahead and add the oil tomorrow when I get home from work!

And thanks for the guidance on how to go about it!! I think Ill take it to the mechanic in a weeks time or so....just so he can have a quick look at the whole thing and see if there are any issues. I just hope it lasts till my contract is up here!! :)

Topped it up with oil.....needed quite a lot to reach the F mark...hopefully it will be ok. So any other comments?? How does my engine bay look? QUite rusted I know......does it look like the car might last a year or so?

I might try and fix some small things in a few months time.....maybe the seats have them restitched and refoamed......fix the window if its not too expensive.....

How about rust on the door hinges and so on.....is that easily removed.....can it be done at home and if not how much is a garage more or less gonna charge me?

Cheers!!

There are some nicer Samurais on the Island, quite jealous!! Just hope mine lasts a year and a bit!!

Thanks!
