A fun new off roading game!
Found this and its pretty good even for a free demo!
It's called "spintires" and its a free roaming 4x4 demo with mud and tree and everything! I haven't played it for very long yet but there seems to be quite a bit to it... I found a river for a start
You will need a bit of software called "winrar" to extract it... available free here:
http://www.rarsoft.com
Download the game from here:
http://www.spintires.com/#!/demo
Choose the Dev version as then you can add new trucks to it!
Extract it to a folder called "spintyres" for example, and then download this!
http://www60.zippyshare.com/d/71640321/ ... amurai.zip
use winrar again and copy the contents of samurai.zip into the "media" folder inside the spintyres folder you just created
enjoy

Looks wicked. I found a game with a Samurai based rock crawler model in it ages ago but the game's physics model was pretty terrible.

Pretty low requirements. Says it's a successfully funded kickstarter project. We'll have to keep an eye on it for the full version when it's finally released.
I'll record a video of it for those that are interested but don't want to play with program files.

Re: A fun new off roading game!
I'll be your graphics card that's limiting your laptop rather than the processor or RAM I think
I've had a bit of a play and I must say I'm impressed. The graphics and physics are top notch. I love the terrain system where you can dig into the mud easier near water, and just generally the way the mud seems to work. Suspension movement it very nice and the Kraz and Maz feel heavy. Wading is very good. The truck seems to displace water and creates a bow wave and when you move into flowing water you have to fight the current.
I do have a few niggles with it though. I think that digging into mud is a bit too all or nothing at the moment. As soon as you break the surface you're up to your axles; there's no middle ground. The Uaz is completely lost as soon as it breaks the surface no matter what you do and the red Samurai has to go for diff locks or it will hardly move. I even managed to get the Kraz completely stuck.
The other thing is vehicle handling. They're prone to doing a full pirouette when you steer at anything much over first gear and yet despite that I think that, to make the game more fun the steering wants to turn and return a little bit more quickly. I reckon that these issues will probably be ironed out by the time the game is finished though, this is just a tech demo showing off the physics they've developed for off-roading.

Re: A fun new off roading game!
The handling I think is more that the steering stays where you put it apart from the vehicle self centering... ie if you turn the wheel 90* right you have to turn it 90* back again afterwards
im just loving the amount of different vehicles and mods there are for it... seems like it will be a very community modded game which could be worth buying!
