Which Battery?

Post by Scouse Lee » Sat Jan 18, 2014 10:41 pm

Hi guys, well I'm slowly getting there with the SJ and I do mean slowly haha, seems every time I fix one thing another goes pop, batteries knackered now so I need to get a new one but heavy duty this time as I've got a few new spots on and will have the winch on soon........any recommendations? the engine is a Vitara 1.6 so obviously needs to be for that rather than an SJ 1.3, I looked at a Lucas 68AH one today but it's much bigger than the battery tray so would mean a bit of altering inside the engine bay or there's this one

need to sort it asap

cheers

The engine makes little difference on which battery you get. On your old one it should have a number on it which refers to the dimensions of the battery and the size of the terminals. Mine is an 075.

Take the old one to a motor factors and ask for the same size but beefier.
If it ticks over...leave it

I *think* mine is a type 075 too, I got a 45ah version, instead of the 35ah one that was in there before.

If I ever get around to fitting my winch, I'll probably replace it with a 200ah lorry battery (I keep my battery in the back) but for now, the battery I have seems fine. There's very little point in going overboard with the battery, you're only going to have to replace it in a few years anyway.

its sometimes a gamble but if you can find an optima battery for cheap they are seemingly quite good!

i had a couple of £65 odd quid halfords batteries die, managed to get one of these for free and never put a foot wrong! if i had to buy another battery i'd be happy to pay £100 for one!

just only get ones that say mfd by optima

and not dist by optima like this

Don't get your batteries from Halfords. The 5 year warranty ones are the only good ones and they cost a fucking fortune. I got a battery for my SJ for less than £48 (when I returned my buggered calipers the refunded surcharge more than paid for the battery)

Cheers guys, plenty for me to think about there.......the battery I've got on is a Drive Tec Heavy Duty Part Number 085, 330 cold cranking & 40 Ah, (not that it means anything to me :er: ). I've just put it back on and started the old girl, took a bit but got there in the end so I'm not sure if this batteries ok or not really I'll just have to keep my eye on it, would still like a new one though.

Well any 085 battery should at least fit.
