Rough Country shocks or know of any others?

Post by Blevvv » Tue Jan 07, 2014 11:33 pm

Hey guys im back, and after more advice again!
this time its shocks, now im no expert,
but i know were going to need some seriously tough shocks on this rally and from what id think the standard SJ ones mite not be up for such a grueling challenge so were looking for heavy duty shocks, and in, should i say it....in a standard lift size  there i said it  now all i seem to know of is the Rough Country and Bilstein's, can you guys think of anything els? or had any experience with these makes?
we think there mite be about 400kg extra weight on are sj with driver and passenger tools spares, roll cage, roof rack i could go on!
the guy on ebay assured me the rough countrys are the best for the rally, but seeing as hes the seller i thought he would
whats your thoughts please guys

Not sure about heavy duty shocks as a standard fitment. I use KYB and they are cheap but apparently indestructible. Maybe fit those and carry a few as spares?

I've got some rough countrys on mine. (Replaced leaking pro comps)

Seem pretty nice compared to the pro comps but I've only had them on for half a year so can't comment on how they hold up however my truck does take a good beating.

Be careful not to get anything too hard, you will lose your spine if you go too hard, but my tyre pressures probably didn't help that last time, pro comp ES1000's are supposed to be the softest but I don't know how strong they are though...

I've had a cheap set of KYB shocks on my Sj for 7 years and they have been through hell yet are still fine  most people I know who run pro comps have had leaking ones after only a couple of years.

The rough country's are better than ES3000s for sure.

I can't comment with regard to ride comfort on a standard setup due to the leaf springs I run though.
