my samurai 1995 has a strong smell of petrol for half an hour after turning it on in the morning. i live in the channel islands so it takes a while to get up to temperature, when starting and stoping all the time, but its winter now and my mpg has gone down to about 15mpg from 27mpg, i think the choke is getting stuck?
when i start the engine i leave it tick over for a few minutes, its goes from 1500rpm slowly up to 2000rpm, then i drive around for 30 mins and it only starts to drop to 1800rpm. my petrol consumption has gone up considerably, there is not a problem in the summer, only in the winter.
has the thermostat been removed?
should i buy a new su carb?
or should i fit a manual choke?
any answers welcome. please help

Sounds just like what mine did (and plenty of others) the Asain carb is a nightmare, I tried for ages to get it right again but failed. The best option is to replace it, I wish I had done it sooner. Have a look here for some options http://www.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/phpBB3/ph ... =13&t=1472
I personally fitted a Nikki carb which is a direct fit and I got off e-bay for less than £30 delivered. I also managed to connect mine back up to my original air box meaning I have a warm air feed so no carb Icing

im thinking of getting an su carb, is there a particular one for the samurai, do i need an adaptor kit

Yes if you go SU the prefered carb has HIF44 cast onto it. This denotes the bore of the carb. I think I am right in saying you need to change the jets to a BDL Needle Plus you will need a 90deg adaptor and a lot people make heated water jackets to prevent carb Icing.
