Ok, so I haven't rebuilt the carb (but the car it came off was running when I removed it) Before doing anything with the carb I just want to get it running. The carb is off a maestro and i just want to see if it runs. I know most posts mention changing needles etc... giving it a good service gaskets & springs.
I've got adaptor (elbow, but no water jacket yet) and plumbed it all in but it just wont fire. From reading the posts i've done it the same as everyone else. Old carb off, removed all the additional bits. I've got petrol to the SU but it's not even trying.
How do i tell if the mixture is coming out the other of the carb?
Anybody got any suggestions???
Cheers
Jordi

I'm not too clues up on my SU carbs however it should still fire up if not jetted correctly, just run badly.
Have a read up here and on the links inthis thread it contains pretty much everything you need to know about the SU conversion.

Yup, read that one, read the DIY page on Suzuki Club, and i've been thru the shropshire forum too. Mine pretty much is identical to all of them minus the water jacket.
Pipes to the same places, same bits blocked off. I havn't ran this SJ for years and bolted the SU on today - nothing.
Swapped back to the original carb and after throwing a bit of petrol straight down the carb she fired.
I've checked the plug, dizzy and solenoid all ok, getting a spark. Thought it might be a fuel issue but i've checked the pump and all the pipes and now can't get rid of the taste of petrol.
I would like to know what the adjuster near the fuel inlet does tho???? I know the one on the top by the throttle is the mixture.
I know it's probably something silly I'm overlooking but so far I've managed to give myself electric shock, took the skin off my hands and tasted petrol. It will run!!!

Slight correction hear...
Screw on top of throttle controlled the idle.
Screw below fuel intake controls mixture (in for weak, out for rich)

Re: SU Carb - My Samurai won't run
do you have a supply and return on the carb!.. make sure there the right way... it could be the float stuck closed, remove the float chamber on the bottom of the carb, make sure you dont break the gasket?, and the check the float valve makeing sure its free and allowing fuel through. also check the piston isnt stuck, theres not to go wrong in a SU...
