What is this pipe for?

Post by ferris » Thu Jan 07, 2010 5:05 pm

I snapped this pipe this morning while i was hitting the starter moter. Just wonder if it is anything important that i should replace, or whether my quick duck tape fix should be ok? There was no fluid in it.

I think it is attached to the throttle lever, to pull it closed when you take your foot off the pedal (if that makes any sence). It was like it when i bought the car. I always thought it looked a bit bodge.

its the vacuum advance pipe. its advances the ignition timing via vac suction from inlet manifold. its should be replaced but better off blocking pipe off until it can be repaired permently because if its not air tight it will weaken the fuel mixture.
hope this helps. kev
