No need to notify insurance for redrilled perches its not noticeable.

1/4" isn't much and during flex while turning they will probably still catch. You might not need to do the full 25mm though. Personally I would, it helps with approach angle as well.

well i think ill get a bit more space by beating the bulkhead a bit just to be sure when driving on the road, ill get a lift on it before i take it offroad just to be sure there is plenty of room...

it makes much more sense to move the axle, the bulkhead in that area is quite strong and you'll just make a mess trying to clearance it by beating it.

There's no need to lift it if they clear, it will perform just as well offroad without the lift.

but hey what do i know :er:

Scottie am I correct in saying the when you go over a bump with regular shackles (not reversed) it pushes the axle up and forward, away from the bulkhead anyway?

Yes but not by very much and there are many other factors to consider.

It also depends on how much arch there is in the spring, of which there isn't much with stock height springs. Also you need to remember at ride height the bulkhead is not level with the centre line of the tyre where the largest diameter is and when you steer the outer edge of the tyre will move closer to the bulkhead.

Look how much clearance there is on my tyres at ride height but at full stuff and full lock the tyre gets very close to the bulkhead.

i nwill see what i can do tomorrow, i just dont want anything to happen on the road and the insurance become void because i havent told them that ive move the axle foreward..

i would like to do a lift of some sort anyway, need to replace the rear springs yet again cause i have the same problem as dazerede...

so if im replacing the rear springs i may aswel lift it while im at it..

They wouldn't even be able to tell! You worry too much! I had to fill out 2 pages of mods on my insurance and there's almost certainly little things that I've forgotten and missed. Most modified cars on the road probably aren't even declared as modified and I would imagine well over half of 1.6 converted sjs aren't registered as being a 1.6!

your using yj's though arent you? and with the virtual lift you made space at the bulkhead aswel didnt you?

id like a bit of a lift just for some extra room as i know theyll catch when the suspension flexes up..

Yes I run YJs but it's set up so that my suspension is stock height with stock height bumpstops, in fact I think it's actually lower than stock suspension. Plus I run 33x12.50s on 10" wheels with loads of offset on samurai axles and my front axle sits 25mm further forward than stock.

My tyres are quite a bit bigger than yours and my bulkhead is only cut back around 1/1.5"

With the axle moved fowards and providing you have the original bump stops fitted they shouldn't catch.
