Veiwing A Samuri Tonight..........

Post by rory-ray » Mon Aug 19, 2013 5:40 pm

Decided I may jump over to the Sj side of Suzuki 4x4.......

Im going to view a samuri tonight, its from a friend, its been used and abused but maintained mecaniccly to a good standard.

The owner(s) are mechanics at a very high rated and well known garage here so I have no worrys about service life, oils, general mechanical condition etc.

It runs and stops, 4x4 works fine etc, obviously there isn't no tax or test on it but im not too bothered about that, my first thoughts were to buy it and break it, but after being in my mates sj it really has made me want one, it just seems that they go were you point them, and don't kick up too much of a fuss while doing it.

Now is there anything I should look out for? I know the obvious places with rust and rot etc but is there any other things that I should look at? he wont sale me a lemon and Im not going in expecting gold but I would just like to know if theres anything that I should know about.

Thanks in advance

Rust / rot generally everywhere. Oil seals in the diffs and bellhousing / crank seal leaks.

Excessive smoke, dodgy carb.

Theres not usually alot wrong with them mechanically. Just wear and tear, i can't think of any regular terminal faults they have.

The main / hardest things to do for me are transmission bearings / rebuilds like t/boxes and diffs. Quite technical stuff to set them up right.
