Double ball joint rod end thing?
Re: Double ball joint rod end thing?
Yes so if you are making new steering links from scratch you are not modifying or repairing

Yup well the whole problem could have been avoided if the engineers at Suzuki stayed sober while designing parts!!! I swear so many bits were thought of after a late night sake session

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Double ball joint rod end thing?
I actually just burst out laughing in the middle of the office after reading this thread.
Now everyone's staring at me, LOL.
Yeah, it does seem like a remarkably stupid design!
I'm pretty sure I can make a good enough part to pass an MOT. I guess things like that are put in (and purposefully left pretty broad) to give the tester an opportunity to fail you if you've done shoddy repairs.
The parts are waaaaaay over engineered and the gauge of steel I've got couldn't be bent if you crashed it into a wall. My welding has also got a lot better recently too. My guess is that a tester would look at it, realise that there was basically zero risk from it being used and just pass it.
I guess I'll just have to see what the MOT man says!

Re: Double ball joint rod end thing?
I always use the same MOT man.
When i first started he used to check EVERYTHING. Now he's much more chilled. As long as it's safe and not too illegal, mainly safe he's fine with it. Plus he's well aware of how much work i do and how quick it can be done.
MOT is only valid till it leaves the garage. He's well aware as soon as i get it home it'll be messed with some more.

i think suzuki must of designed the petrol tank sender on the same night rather then putting a inspection plate in the rear floor you have to drop the whole bloody tank out!

Lots of vehicles are like that, at least it's only the sender, you can still drive without that. a lot of rangerover classics don't have an access hole either, I strategically cut a hole in my mates rangerover boot floor so that we could change the fuel pump without dropping the tankturbo-tom wrote:i think suzuki must of designed the petrol tank sender on the same night rather then putting a inspection plate in the rear floor you have to drop the whole bloody tank out!

It's a shame Suzuki's don't have that. I think later RR-classics do. Certainly Discovery 1s and RR-P38s do have removable panels in the boot floor for getting at the pump-sender unit.ScottieJ wrote:Lots of vehicles are like that, at least it's only the sender, you can still drive without that. a lot of rangerover classics don't have an access hole either, I strategically cut a hole in my mates rangerover boot floor so that we could change the fuel pump without dropping the tankturbo-tom wrote:i think suzuki must of designed the petrol tank sender on the same night rather then putting a inspection plate in the rear floor you have to drop the whole bloody tank out!

Re: Double ball joint rod end thing?
My MOT tester is quite possibly the most lenient one in the world haha
They've been on Rogue Traders twice for dodgy MOTs! I just use him because a) hes cheap and b) he knows i do all my own work so won't fail it on anything unnecessary
