Wheel tracking and alignment

Post by ojr1979 » Fri Jun 14, 2013 3:54 pm

Took my sj410 to the garage today to get the tracking done as it feels like one wheel is fighting the other and also having to steer to the left slightly to get it to drive straight.after the mechanic tried he found a nut was loose and it wouldnt tighten up so the threads have gone hopefully on the nut and not on the steering rod, anyone know the size thread type or where i can get a couple from? its the one far right in the pic, cheers

That nut is only the locknut. Can I assume the threads in/on the connector or bar are knackered. If so the steering on the drivers side could let go at any time

This is on the drivers side,i have no idea as to the threads being knackered elsewhere? just the bloke at the garage said the locknut was screwed ?

To adjust the tracking ,both locknuts need to be undone, then the connector 17 can be rotated.
If one locknut came loose it still shouldn't go out of alignment.
I'm worried that the thread on the tie rod is damaged or the thread in the connector is damaged.
All the tie rod parts should be in-line and either the photo is distorting things or it's bent.

Well after undoing it the thread has gone on the rod, the nuts thread has gone on the rod side and the long hexagonal section on the rod side has gone aswell! this is my ride at the moment as my other car is knackered atm just my bloody luck! lol
