DIY Fuel tank

I'm looking at getting a fuel tank made. Probs 50ltr so its a bit bigger than standard.

To keep costs down and make fitment easy i'm looking to use the original sender unit.

Am i right in saying as long as the fuel tank is the same depth as a standard tank the sender unit will still be accurate as it will still have the same up/down movement?

Your thoughts please.

As long as your sender has full travel it will be fine just if the tanks deeper ull have a bigger empty so to speak

I'm looking at something same width and depth as standard but a bit longer and completely square instead of rounded.

Should be fine then as its messures the travel i.e. up and down not volume it will still say full at full and empty aat empty just take longer to go down and cost more to fill lol

The cost isn't an issue. If it needs fuel it needs fuel, lol. Day to day i only put £10 -£15 in every week or two.

When out laning it can become very thirsty and it would be nice to have a bit extra capacity.

Anybody got a tank sat about they could measure the internal depth of for me?

Saves me messing on with mine too much.

Tell me if i'm wrong. Other wise this could be an expensive mistake.

A fuel tank 65cm x 25cm x 30cm is 48.75lts standard tank i measure at approx 27cm deep so i i make mine deeper it just means the fuel gauge will read empty when i still have some left. Correct?

Standard tank is 35lts?

Haynes says its 10.6gal which is 48lts anyway.

So if we go 65x28x30cm its 54.6lts. Which sounds nice. An extra gallon of fuel. Or 65x30x30cm is 58.5lts. But is about as big as i want in the space available. 12.8 gallon so just over 2extra gallon which should mean another 60miles between fills when doing lots of miles.

Yeah your rite if u go deeper it will show empty when its not

Think i'm settled on 65x30x30. As said, it fits the available space well. Tried to get a quote today but the lads who do the pricing are at a funeral. I'll be goong round next week to see them at some point.
