Take it off and bench test it mate, if its making the whurr but not the solenoid clunk then id bet its the solenoid!!! You never know, sometimes just taking it off, powering it with jump leads, and putting it back on can get them working again :)

at least it doesn't sound like you desperately need it. I would just strip and clean it, but I'm a little creazy, so don't always listen to me. you trying to catch scottie twiss?

Oooh also I think I have at least 2 starters with knackered motors and decent solenoids... although did you say you have the skinny one?

Darrel have you got a diagram for "skinny" starter please? thanks in advance

No :oops: , only the standard one.
I doubt if the internals are much different.
If the motor is spinning I have to assume the solenoid plunger is moving but possibly not moving the gear into the flywheel.
I have had one starter that just span but didn't turn the engine over and it was the one way clutch knackered. I couldn't buy a new one anywhere so ended up buying a recon unit.

not to worry thanks anyway cant be that hard can it! ;) yeah sounds like the same problem with mine! ill take it off and see whats happend! :D
