Hi,

From Gti engine owner, I can tell you that you can bore it out to 76.5mm with std liners.
Anymore than that, you want to take out old liner then fit aftermarket ones.
If you fit 75mm Vitara pistons, it will reduce CR from 10:1 to 6.8:1 so you will need to skim 1mm off the block.

Fitting G13B to G16 will work but G16 SOHC 16v will be better as port is already bigger than G13B.

I'm actually fitting 76mm Vitara pistons from USA made for Honda D16 use ones. I will be either fitting K-series or Peugeot 106 Rally liners to my G13B. This way, I can have 30 psi setup for over 300 Bhp from my little 1.3 engine!

Sorry for the late reply. I had an ISP issue so I couldn't post as it was intermiten connections!
Anyway, I shall show you some of my reasearch into bigger bore G13B engine!

These are the Rover K-series liners. Right one is better material.


Here goes the result of some measurings and my thoughts.
Left is Vitara and the other is Standard Gti piston.


Piston is almost 1mm difference.


Vitara piston has 5.5mm -1mm ruler thickness. So it is 4.5mm deeper than std.


Liner length is 132mm length, so I will need to make it shorter, I think.


Just checked if piston goes in OK or not as it is!


So, with Vitara pistons(75mm) you can either have 1333cc with 75.5 stroke or 1360cc with 77 stroke from G13A engine.
If you are using this liner with NA, you can go up to 80mm bore.
This will give you 1517cc or 1547cc. Rover uses same liners but bore it out for 1800/2000cc engines.
If you are going to use it for boost, then stick it with 75/76mm bore and it will be OK with 30 psi. As this is proven by my good friend who built a 1400 turbo everyday car and qtr mile run Mini which had 240Bhp@wheel.

My other good friend told me he has Peugeot 106 rally liner which is 75mm bore ready to collect as well!
I hope it gives you good enough info for you boys and girls.

This sounds interesting! Once I've got my current to-do list out of the way, I might have to pick your brains some more - but for now, I have enough to be getting on with! I'll keep a close eye on your build, this sounds like something I'd be very interested in.

Mine would be a 80mm bore with a G16 16v head and 77 stroke, N/A. I'd like to get above the 100ft-lb mark (I'd *LIKE* to get to 140, a man can dream!) for towing reasons.

What do you do about the conrods when running the G16 pistons in the G13a, Don't the 1.3 pistons use pressed pins and the 1.6 use floating pins?

Vitara pistons have floating 19mm pins same as Gti.
G13A has 17mm. I have 5 set of con rods off Gti so I will be using my stock.
If any one wants them let me know. I will be buying forged rods for a big bore turbo engine.

If it was an easier swap, and I wasn't so worried about the weight making my SJ a bit less drivable offroad (probably worried about nothing there, the M13a jimnies are ok, right?), I'd have bought an M15 ages ago!

I'm probably going to end up doing an M15 swap. I just want to look at all the available options first - imported G15a, bored/stroked G13bb, or M15a - comes down to which one is going to be the easiest and cheapest...

I'm also considering a megasquirted G13. Lots of options. Enough to make my head hurt a bit!
