Engine High low Revs on its own problem?

Post by slaterfett » Wed Apr 24, 2013 8:53 am

Sorry a quick question.

I have just fitted a SU hif44 on to my 1.3 SJ. First turn of the key and it ran. The problem is that the engine revs up by itself then drops to almost a stall by itself.

if I rev the engine it picks up great.

Is this a air leak somewhere?

The carb is using a BDL needle but still on a yellow spring not red? could this alos be a factor?

Many, many thanks

Are all breathers clear and plumber up correctly?

I had this issue and it was blocked breather pipe.

Very likely to be an induction air leak which you may be able to test by squirting WD40 or similar at areas that have been disturbed when you fitted the carb - if an air leak is present, the revs should respond to the WD40 as it gets burnt in the cylinders, (be careful not to start a fire!). Also make sure that you have the correct oil and the correct level in the piston damper tube.

Not very knowledgeable on the correct needle and spring colour I'm afraid.

Not sure what needle or spring is in mine. Unbolted it from the maestro, bolted it on the Zuk. £1000 worth of transmissions mods and repairs 38mpg!

New i should of put those FWH, could have been 40mpg.
