Re: Welder
Yeah was just chatting to some fella at my old work about some welding on my zook the first time I modded it and he just turned round and said "I've got a welder you can have". Think I had to change the torch hose lining pretty early on as it had been sat in his garage but now I've done loads with it I realise he actually gave me a really good freebie.dazerede wrote:

Re: Welder
I bought a Snap On 130 Turbo (same as Cebora), about 22 years ago second hand for £30, still got it know. Its rebuilt a couple of LJ's, a couple of SJ's, used it almost continuosly for 22 days rebuilding my Morris Minor, rebuilt a Land Rover chasiss (Urgh!!!) and it has done countless other jobs on modern cars, Lambrettas, Vespas, etc. I can only guess at how many 100's of hours it has ran. Never let me down. Copes with body panels no problem and has enough power for chassis, good enough for any job on an SJ
If your going to buy one always buy a gas type, forget gasless they're Sh***. Got one given, tried it once that was enough!!!!
Its always worth looking for a second hand one, theres usually a few almost new one about, I think people buy them thinking it looks easy, but give up very quickly!!!

Re: Welder
Looks easy. Really easy.
I bought one knowing it was an art and a skill. I'm still a crap welder but the way these things rot theres plenty to do to learn. If i sold the welder might as well sell the Zuk. Probably the most important thing i have to keep it on the road.
Made me lazy in some ways. Jobs i probably should have drilled and bolted just got welded.
My next proj. is gonna be a front bumper and roll cage. Just haven't got quite the cash as RW will want a fair amount off me some. Then another fair lump in another few weeks time.
Quite looking forward to the bumper though. Thicker, new steel, easier to weld!

Re: Welder
I bought a Siegen (basically sealey) 130a Mig welder for £300 and its great
Already saved me a fortune on body welding, but I haven't really pushed it hard.
Managed to make my entire exhaust with it, fixed a metal bedframe, and have made a few brackets here and there
Well worth every penny
