Axel/hub problem?

Post by Joshcadman1 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:06 pm

Hi all my near side hub started making an awful noise on my way home a sort of wining and grinding noise when I got home I looked and the wheel seems to have a lot of camber the offside has a little bit but nowhere near as much and I wouldn't drive in a straight line had to keep correcting it I am running 31x10.5x16 tyres if this might be the steering problem ? But is quite scary when it wonders about on the road hope someone can help me thanks josh

First impression would be a failed wheel bear. By the looks of the pics you need a new half shaft oil seal too.

Sound like a wheel bearing to me. Jack it up and see if there is any movement in the wheel.

Looking at the angle of the wheel in relation to the brake disc shield I'd say the wheel bearing is well and Truely gone! I would not drive it until its fixed, and check the other side too, jack it up check for play and that it is nice and smooth when it spins.

As said above you could probably do with changing the inner oil seals as well, once the wheel earrings are adjusted checked and sorted you might want to check the kingpin bearings for play as well.

The hubs and stub axles should be fine. they usually just need new bearings and oil seals, you can get them from any motor factors/eBay etc.

Here's all the info you should need about doing the job.
