NIKKI TWIN CHOKE PROBLEMS

Post by colinl » Sun Jan 27, 2013 7:22 pm

Hi All, Recently i destroyed my vitara engine and replaced it with a 1.3 but had to use the carb off the 1.6.The carb is a Nikki twin choke which worked well on the 1.6 but isnt so clever on the 1.3 so i was hoping that somebody could tell me in simple terms what i can do to make it run ok.At the moment it is smoking and running very rich as the plugs are black when checked.I have tried adjusting the mixture screw but stiil runs rich although it does tick over nice and even but when on the gas it stinks and smokes.

thanks in advance

ps it is also fitted with K+N filter at the moment until i fit a snorkel but the filter is clean.

I reckon it will need smaller jets. It might run alright at idle but because the jet is too big you still get too much fuel as you open the throttle.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
