main dealer parts

Post by trotter » Thu Jan 17, 2013 5:55 pm

i think the kid in the parts dept of my local :suzuki: main dealer (read main stealer) now thinks i'm a bit mental..

me hi i'd like a cambelt tensioner please for a vitara engine 1.6 16valve G16A i think

him ok have you got a reg number?

me no as the engine is fitted in another vehicle

him ok what year is it?

me don't really know.. (picking a year off the top of my head) 95 maybe?

him is it a soft top or a hard top?

me didn't realise engines came with that option..

him (just looks at me while a tumbleweed rolled past..)

me (wondering if he has a sense of humour and is trying to double bluff me) think it was a soft top.

him and what size is the engine?

me 1.6 16valve G16A engine.

him and you want a cambelt?

me no, just the tensioner please.. see here in my hand i have 2 different tensioners, one is metal and 50mm dia x 28mm wide the other is plastic and 58mm dia x 24mm wide.. i need the metal one please

him ok i'l just go look

me i amuse myself for 5 mins watching a technician trying and failing to put a plastic undertray back on a hyundai i10.. clip 1 side on the other falls off and repeat etc etc

him i haven't got one

me ok well can you get one?

him yes i could order one but it will take at least 3 days to arrive

me hmm ok not ideal i wanted it for this weekend really. what was the price by the way?

get ready for it

him oh that will be £50...

me  um no thanks that's more than i paid for the engine!! :hahaha: :hahaha:

him just looks at me again while i walk off laughing and shaking my head

It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

The chap at Powell's in Scunthorpe can be like that some days.

He knows me when I say who it is, and yet every time he asks for number plate "Okay that's not come up. Do you have the chassis number?" Give him that "Still not got anything." and so on.

He does it every single time I ring up.

I'd wager it's something stupid about their computer system that's part of the problem but for some reason he can't just look up a 1984 SJ410 Type 2 WVX.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Rear windscreen wiper arm for a Mk1 Toyota Yaris, after some oik snapped it off for fun (hardly an Aston Martin we're talking about here) - £34.

For a windscreen wiper arm. Not even including the wiper. Or VAT.

I don't even bother ringing the main stealer anymore!

Love it.

Had a similar argument over hand brake cable with my main stealer. Chassis number and reg number. He told me "its this one" i'm stood there with a completely different one "no its this one, i just took it off".

Can't beat them for a laugh.
