vit tow bar

Post by plugspanner » Thu Jan 10, 2013 7:42 pm

i have a chance of a cheap grand vitara tow bar with a removeable tow ball, trouble is i have a 4u2 vitara, so my question is would it fit or could it be made to fit easily with just some new chassis brackets.
the removeable towball type would be better so i could take it off when off roading.
anyone have a clue, or the next question is anyone got a cheap vit tow bar?
thanks in advance

Are you after the removable ball hitch or does your Vitara not have a tow hitch and frame? Most tow hitches I've seen are held on with two bolts and can be easily swapped from one vehicle to another if they're got the subframe fitted to the chassis.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

i have no frame just the bolt holes in the chassis, so it needs to be established if the gv has a wider chassis i suppose.
thanks

I've got a 2005 Grand vitara 1600. It had a chrome bar on it when I brought it, but I replaced that with a home made jobbie so the customers at work could hit it like they do on my SJ
Here's the measurements I took from that bar

could you not just fit a standard vitara towbar & unbolt the towball when you not using it ???
