Laning round Northumberland

Left the house at 0730. Back in about 1830. I thought it was a pretty long day.

Went out with 4 of the lads from northeast laners. Met at Haydon Bridge and did a few lanes around the area, Hexham and Slaley Forest I think it was.

I know I was told before hand and I'm sorry. But I don't have as many pics as I would have liked. For a first time laning I had a great day. But then axle deep mud, 3ft (ish) fords, steep muddy inclines, soggy fields. It had it all. It wasn't as "gentle" as I was expecting. A lot of websites and people I've met say "yeah, be fine in a standard Disco". The first wet field soon stopped him. Which was a shame seemed like a canny chap. I'm hoping he's not gonna sack it. I'm sure if he asks about on the forum he can get on the gentler stuff for a bit. I know i'll be keeping an eye on the forum for future days out. The lads get all over too Northumberland, N.Yorks Dales & Moors.

I'll get onto the other lads and see if I can get some photos and videos off them.

I'm fairly Sure Stuart got a video of his pajero crossing the ford of which I appear to have to photos of any doing. Must try harder.

Looks like a good day! Yeah you'll be surprised at what some lanes can throw at you! When I first started offroading years ago there were some crazy lanes around that were really bad and challenging. nowadays a lot of them have been smoothed and graded. Still know of some that are quite eventful though!

As i've mentioned its my first time in 12 years ish of off roading that i've been laning. My biggest concern was my ickle fuel tank think a 50ltr tank would be better suited.

I was surprised how well the pajero got round but it had been lifted and MTs fitted.

Some of the lanes were well used tracks that you could quite happily trundle along 20mph in 2WD. Others were steep rutted hill climbs. I was well impressed with how my Sammi performed though. Plenty of water about too, when it came to the bogging mud the light weight Zuk showed you dont need 35" swampers and a V8.

Im off tomorrow to see a few chaps about engines and roll cages. Just to make it even more impressive. One track had 10" ruts and after a mile a tree was down. Too big to move so we turned around. Considering im on ATs at the moment she climbed out the ruts amazingly well.

The lads i went with were well clued up on most stuff mapping, navigation, country code. Made for a good day out. Had a good laugh but there was no "clowning about" so to speak.

It'd be pretty awesome to try and have a laning weekend with you chaps at some point. I'll defo be going out again though. Gona aim for once a month either a pay n play or laning.

I'm fancying KORC or tong. Probably feb time. If i can get to either i'm gona give tramp and Ed a shout.

Hopefully i'll get the vid of the river crossing. We weren't expecting it as it wasn't on the map luckily was only a couple of foot deep as i dont have a snorkel yet.

I could ramble on all night about it. Just wished i got more photos.

Looks & Sounds like you had a good day out even if a bit long lol!

Hopefully mine will be road legal by the end of the month (wouldn't use the term finished lol) plumbing pipes into the engine saturday, new transfer box mounts, then a new windscreen, and a couple of niggly bits (horn, temp sensor, hole's where i cut tunnel).

So I might be available for KORC or tong, if you don't mind me tagging along not been to a P&P site, and before mine was too underpowered to get up hills so never risked it lol.

As and when i go i'll stick a thread up. There are a few lads within a reasonable distance of both sites on here.

Fairly sure KORC is any vehicle but tong must be road legal and nothing too extreme. Details are on the parkwood offroad website.

I did have the satisfaction of pulling him out later on though. It was a deep as rut though, almost lost a whole wheel in it.

Just a forum/club. They are from all over the north east and go all over. It was good crack. I did hear mention of round Scarborough.

Plus they have charity meets and pub meets planned. Few different things throughout the year aswell as the laning.

If i can get out and have a good time like yesterday a few times a year its a worthwhile forum.
