Engine Misfire

Post by -Bradders- » Wed Dec 19, 2012 11:12 pm

i hope someone can help me.

the engine is missing, i've rebuilt the head as there was half the amout of compression as there was the rest in cylinder 4. (this is what the mechanic told me i think he was after the job) anyway i rebuilt it and its still missing as far as i can tell the compression is ok, (testing tomorrow) i dont have any fire in cylinder 2, we tried swapping the leads and its the same. what could cause a misfire? the head was fine, i reseated the valves, new headgasket, and its still missing on cylinder 3. (2nd from the front) Help!! its doing my nut shall i start by changing distributer and leads? ps its a 1.6 8v carb vitara.
Thanks in advance!

would go for dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads, and check the plugs to start with.

I replaced the plugs already so I'll do leads dizzy and rotor first

I just said the same as Dan in the other post
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Are any of the plugs washed? on these engines there's water channels that run through the inlet manifold and carb, if the carb gasket or inlet manifold gasket fails it can allow water in causing a missfire.

Did you get to the bottom of this problem. I'm having the exact same problem on the same cylinder. Thanks

Thought you sold that Vit? Glad you didn't!

Don't take this the wrong way, but did you gap the new plugs when they went in?
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Guys take note of the posting dates, hotbob is asking Bradders if he ever solved the problem ;)

Hotbob I think Bradders sold this Vit and he hasn't been online since May so probably won't be around to answer your question. Think he ended up stripping the head down again according to his build thread. http://forum.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/vi ... 1&start=10
