They do make some odd noises when the tcase is in neutral and you do that, no sj transmission is quiet to be honest due to the lack of sound deadening. Have you had it up to any sort of speed yet? I wouldn't worry about it as long as it has fresh oil and its at the correct level.

It's not abnormal. There's virtually no sound deadening as Scott said, plus virtually all small manual gearboxes are noisy. It's because they are thinner 'skinned' and lighter than larger gearboxes and of course autos are completely different.

I know from first hand experience that you can hear the input shaft free spinning in old Metros, Maestros, Novas, Corsas and Astras much the same as that. I usually sit with my foot on the clutch when I'm not moving anyway, just out of habit.

thanks lads! im quite confident on the MOT now as ive done a bit more work today, if she fails then it can only be brakes or emissions... hopefully they wont fail it because of the dripping oil, was thinking of putting duct tape over the slot in the gearbox since people do that when they fit axle and gearbox breathers...

I think they can only do advisories for oil leaks. That's what mine got anyway.
The MOT is a test to see if a car is safe rather than how good a condition it's in. The emissions is for environmental damage obviously.

That's what it always comes down to. Have a little faith and take a screwdriver.

She looks really smart. I'm liking your take on the bumper.
