Facet fuel pump fitting

Post by lazy rambler » Wed Aug 01, 2012 12:23 pm

I'm going through a 1.6 conversion and I'm unsure about where to put the pump.

Can I put it somewhere easy to access, or dose it need to be near the tank, if so how close?

I'm guessing for wiring I just need to fit a relay.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

You can mount them next to the tank but I dont think it's really necessary...
I've mounted my fuel pump to the inside of the front driver side wheel arch (near the alternator)

Seems to pump fuel up just the same!
As for wiring, I've used a relay that is triggered off the ignition live. You are really supposed to use an oil pressure cut off switch as well. Its a switch that is ON when the is oil pressure and OFF when there is none!
It just cuts the fuel pump off if the engine stalls. I havent put one on yet but its easy enough to add on later

I've mounted mine underneath near where the stock fuel filter is.

Also wired a relay in for it with a switch on the dash. But will be adding an oil cut off switch when I get time and its up and running.

I've figured a way to use 2 relays to make it work off the standard oil switch rather than trying to find a normally open switch with the correct thread and a t piece etc

May be easier to use an inertia switch, saves farting around with tee pieces and special pressure switches.
Although would an SJ set it off when offroading, not exactly the smoothest ride are they :D

You'd probably set off an inertia switch driving to the shops in an SJ!!!
