You need ot make sure the clutch plate is dead centered with the flywheel or you'll find it very hard to get the splines on the gearbox shaft to line up and slot in.
Is the engine/box out of the truck?

Re: Help required!! how to get engine and gearbox together
I always find having someone with a 19mm on the crankshaft bolt Turning it (clockwise) as you put the two together helps the splines engage.
If you have someone underneath making sure the block and bellhousing are parallel it also helps.
Also could try jacking the front of the gearbox up to help with the angle.
It's one of those things, sometimes they just slip together and other times you wrestle for ages only for them to just slot into place.

Is the clutch aligned properly?
If its not dead centre you'll wiggle it forever and not get it in

Hi
Had the same problem when I rebuilt mine, as i was working on my own, ended up taking the gear box out and then putting both in together. Two days of struggling to connect engine to gear box when in car, 2hrs to fit whole lump

It' a 4x4 why not drive it across a field

Re: Help required!! how to get engine and gearbox together
What did you do when rebuilding engine!
Was it a complete strip and change everything? or partially done.
Did you have the pistons out?
Did you regrind the valves and change the valve seals
Did you use loads of oil when assembling stuff back together?
Check your oil pressure using a guage and do a compression test, if they seem ok could just be oil in the bores
