SORN - pain in the bum
SORN - pain in the bum
Hi All,
Having just been hit for another fine from the DVLA for not renewing my SORN I decided that I would try and do something about it.
I personally dont think that SORN should have to be renewed each year so I created an E-petition
Remove the requirement to renew SORN Statuatory off road notification (SORN) every year
Responsible department: Department for Transport
I propose that the requirement to renew a Statutory off road notification (SORN) is withdrawn.
It seems to me that the requirement to apply for SORN every year is unnecessary and appears to be simply a method of generating revenue from those who simply want to store their own vehicles for their own future use. At the point when the vehicle is taken off the road the vehicle should be declared SORN. - At this point no further correspondence should be necessary until the vehicle is re-taxed or declared scrapped.
It is very easy to forget about a motorcycle or car that has been tucked away in a shed. - It should be assumed that the car or motorcycle is still SORNed unless otherwise notified.
Please take the time to sign my petition if you agree with my view.
Many Thanks
Doug Stacey

Erm, I would sign - but...
http://www.dft.gov.uk/news/press-releas ... s-20111215
The government has already announced that they're going to scrap annual SORN declarations, in favor of a single, ongoing SORN.
So what you want is already coming!

ANOTHER fine Doug? Have you had one before??
I currently have 23 vehicles so need to be very careful with the SORN thing, all are SORN'd on January 1st every year so I don't forget
Re: SORN - pain in the bum
Yeah I have had two DVLA fines now, one for the bike and one for the car.
Excellent news about the new red tape cutting!
Both times I didn't receive the reminder. - I just had another this year. I do tend to run very old vehicles that need work for MOT's every year and inevitably time off the road.
Highlander -23 vehicles????

Whats with the ford scorpios? - your probably artificially inflating the second hand price of them!
Where do you keep all these cars? - you got a farm or something?

Love the old Scorpios, luxury motoring for little money
I break them and sell parts on ebay too, they are basically a large Sierra so a lot of the parts are Sierra compatible but a lot stronger.
I rent an old byre from the farm at the end of the village

They were allways alot of car for the money. - Mind you theres loads of cars like that now. Pretty much anything with an engine er 2lt is so cheap these days.
I think I need to get myself a barn... Trouble is I'd fill it in no time - especially if they scrap the sorn renewal...

Re: SORN - pain in the bum
Ford Scorpios were Ford's answer to the Vauxhall Carlton. Pretty well built and equipped, but there was never any getting away from the fact that they were ugly, so they've always been a lot of car for teh money second hand.
I'm more interested in the Sierras. My mum used to have a 2000E. The Sierra had three different top models basically. The Cosworth, which has a hard and fast four-pot turbo, the XR4(x4) which had the V6 and mostly 4 wheel drive, so they'd give a Cosworth a run for it's money and then there was the 2000E, which was the executive fleet car, with the most luxury bits and bobs in. My mum's one was actually slightly modified. It had the rear axle for the LSD, alloys and brakes from a Cosworth. It was a nice car, but eventually, after 380,000 miles the engine finally gave up and threw a rod.
I've always wanted to have a go in a V6 though. I bet they're good fun.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: SORN - pain in the bum
I have a 2.9 4x4 Sierra for my daily driver, i love it.
Its quick but it won't live with a Sierra Cosworth
Most of My Scorpios are Cosworths, they have the 2.9 24v BOB engine
