Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
simple really
sj: loads of mods , peice of piss to work on , spares are easy to get at the moment, basic electrics, look good
vitara: few mods , easy to work on, like the wideness
jimnys when not modded

Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
I have an SJ and my mum has a jimny so I can compare these two.
The Jimnys like a spaniel, the SJ is like a hyena
In other words anybody can live with a jimny without any problems but you really have to be an enthusiast to own an SJ. Iv been using the jimny a lot lately to and from work and it's great on the motorway. Quiet and stable easily sitting at 70/80. It feels a lot like a proper car unlike the SJ which is definatly more on the agricultural side
Everything else to do with style, appearance, off road ability etc goes to the SJ
(which is why I own the SJ and my mum owns the jimny)

Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
Mines the SJ
In my opinion these are the things that beat both vits and Jimnys
They look the best
They are simpler
Lighter
stronger front shafts and CVs
Stronger front diffs
No chain driven transfer box and plenty of other gear ratios available aftermarket
Easier and cheaper to modify (unless your like me )
But let's not forget the coolest Suzuki 4x4 the suzuki LJ. Some people say they are better than an SJ offroad but I haven't had the chance to experience that yet. Hopefully soon though

Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
In my opinion, I like SJs because they're capable, dependable and have that kind of old school 4x4 look to them.
I wouldn't mind an SWB soft top Vitara, because they look like beach buggies, but they're not quite as easy to work on as SJs, although I suspect they have much better on road riding, I think they suffer a bit offroad because of it.
Jimnys....I wouldn't mind the engine out of an early one. Other than that.....no.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
the reason i asked is because i am thinking of getting a sj and robbing the bits off my vit and puttin my 1.6 carb into it. plus they look easyer to work on aswell.

Re: sj or vitara and jimny?
Yeeeeeees cannibalise the vit for the SJ!!!
Try and get an SJ with a knackered engine, you might be able to get one cheap and then just drop your vit engine in there

Sj all the way, an lj would be nice to try,but I wouldn't even consider a vit or jimny I'd get a 90 before I looked at vits or jimnys.... I'm gonna go wash my mouth out :(

Only joking
My Vit was bought for the purpose of driving it for 6months and then to steal the engine and gearbox for my SJ they are good on road and It did suprise me offroad considering it had crap tyres.
