Re: Roll cage SOS
Well you can either weld i to the chassis, or bolt it.
Bolting makes it removable, as to remove a welded one you would need to get the grinder out. Welding could also potentialy weaken the chassis due to the exposure of heat. If you bolt it on it would probably be an idea to clamp it to the chassis instead of drilling through the chassis. or you could weld mounting points to the chassis then bolt to them.
just my lil input

Re: Roll cage SOS
Personally I would make it so that it bolted on. The Original factory spec rollcage I had in mine was a bolt on job.
You can go fast, I can go ANYWHERE
Re: Roll cage SOS
if you weld it to the chassis i would weld some large 4/6mm plates to the chassis and then weld the rollcage to those. this will spread the load better as the metal on SJ chassis isn't that thick. and if you did roll it could tear the tube work from the chassis.
Re: Roll cage SOS
Many thanx peep's! I've just measured for the cage and have the tube.... it'll be a while till completion as have to do it duing my dinner(half hr at a time)!
all welding will be done at a mates so that side should be an easy wknd!
Also am thinking of adding sliders...possibly incorperating them in with the cage...any input welcome!
Nothings set in stone but have a good start...cheers again!

Just had a thought...if i lifted the body would i have enough lift to fit two hardy bits of box section...attatch the sliders at each end...then weld the cage to the the sliders...or is that the wrong way to go!!???

Re: Roll cage SOS
Hey up ! have a look at the diy section for box section cills i am doing this mod soon hopefully as my cills are shot (but i plan to make/fit a cage at a later date) my thoughts were to use a wider section of box and weld/bolt the down tubes of the cage to the extented cill thus giving you sliders and cage all in one Im not sure about the fact it would be on the body tho? although i have seen them with outriggers to the chassis but that lowers your under body clearance I think it would be strong enough proviuding the body work is solid? hope it helps but any other thoughts from any one else on this ???

Re: Roll cage SOS
[quote="liljitjit"]Thanx...it looks easy enough and my sills are ingood condition so that wont be a problem....at least this way the chass stays untampered!
i have to make the cage first so meanwhile if anyone finds a fault with this idea then please let me know.
Many thanks for the input guys
