Salisbury Plain Maps (maybe more)

Post by Turb() » Tue Dec 27, 2011 10:05 pm

I want to go on some byways, probably start with salisbury plain and then head further afield...

Want to keep it legal so was looking at getting some ordnance survey maps but which ones to get??

What do you guys use?
What scale should you get?

Any info much appreciated!!

Haven't been down the plains for years , but used to motorcycle there. I used ordnance survey landranger 184 which covers a good area.
Just make sure you stick to the lanes your allowed on, the MOD I've heard can to very strict but I never misbehaved and therefore never had a problem with them.

A pic of my old map with the byways Hi-lighted. Bet there's not so may left now thought

Looks good. there appears to be two versions of that map. the one you pictured and the "OS EXPLORER" which I think is slightly more detailed and twice the price :-p

This may be a dumb question, but can I just buy that map from, say, devizes tourist information centre, or do I have to order it from the ordnance survey site?

Yup , the tourist office should have them. I think you only really need a "Explorer" map if you want the footpaths in better detail.
