Towing licence
Towing licence
Just wondering if any one has done the catagory B & E towing test? I'm thinking of doing it in the new year. The training days are quite expensive. Do you think it would be possible for someone with no towing expiriance, to get away with just one days training? Is the test quite full on, or is it pretty basic??

Re: Towing licence
Ive done it,
I did 6 hours training over 2 days, first day was learning to drive again, you have to hitch un hitch in the correct way, reverse and a controlled stop.
My advice is, if your not going to use it, dont bother! I tow about 3 times a week, so it was worth while.
Things like having to check your mirrors every 3-5 secs, distances etc are tiring when concentrating over 2 hours!

Re: Towing licence
My brother did it for work, they paid so it wasn't too bad, but he did 12hours over 2 days. He'd only been driving about 2 months at the time and had very little experience, he had picked up so many bad habits he had to be re taught the basics like mirrors too.
Re: Towing licence
It's not something i would use very often, but think it would be useful to have. I don't think 13 years of bad driving habbits are going to help me tho . If only i'd passed my test 2 years earlier in 97 i wouldn't need to do the test at all.
I think i'l have to try and get back into the habbit of checking my mirrors constantly, keeping my hands at 10 and 2, and driving in a straight line .

Re: Towing licence
I'm considering doing the test as well...
Then I can get a trailer for a trialer
I think the best bet would be to get/borrow a trailer of reasonable size and drive around with it for a while to get used to it

Re: Towing licence
If you're an old codger (like me) and you passed your driving test before 1 January 1997 you don't need to but its a good idea to do it anyway if you are new to trailers
Re: Towing licence
done mine about a month ago it was pi$$ easy just like normal test but you have to reverse across a carpark and into a bay with the back af the trailer in a 1m box, my course was a 3 day jobbey but i was pretty much done in a day just learning to look in my mirrors evry flippin minuite lol go for it
