Scottie's LJ80Q restoration

Well although the build won't actually be starting for a while I thought I'd start a thread for the little beaut The plan is for a full on restoration with a few minor tweaks to make it better on road like SJ brakes front and rear and perhaps a bigger engine with a 5speed box.

Some of one of the previous owners rust repair techniques are certainly interesting I'm looking forward to removing them to see what horrors are underneath.

I've already started collecting bits for the resto though todays ebay efforts have secured me these

Looking good, it will certainly 'make one' I like all the pop riveted panels, it gives it some real character! Does the radio still work? I must say I think the bonnet exit exhaust is a modification by a previous owner! So do you think you will stick with it or go for a more conventional type?

They might add character but they certainly aren't staying. I haven't tried the radio yet as the battery (original Suzuki) is having a charge to see if it has any life left (i doubt it ) but ill throw a cassette in and see, I'll be putting the exhaust back to its original routing, this ones not gonna be seeing much offroad use, well it'll see some gentle greenlaning.

Sorry Gonzalo if I hear of another set for sale ill let you know. It wasn't you bidding on the bonnet as well then? I can't wait to get started on it either its going to be quite nice to just rebuild something without having to spend loads of time modifying bits.

No i didnt bid on the bonnet. Just a thought, but might it be worth asking seller of those items to contact the bidders and let them know about this site and lj facebook page?? Just a thought to boost lj owners list in the UK??

We'll see about the dipping, It's blooooody expensive! good thing about LJs is that a lot of the body is single skinned so there aren't many nooks and crannies that you can't get into for rust removal.

If you get chance, when you speak to Neil see if Jayson still has an LJ. That could be another one to the LJ club. He should know who you mean.

I'm actually excited at the prospect of a UK LJ meet! I've not had one seen 1991 when Sean Bradley use to run the LJ80 register and we all met in London and drove to Holland for a week
