Headlights (Main Beam)

Post by Rjmaas512 » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:13 am

Hello,

All lights now work on the SJ apart from ONE :pissed: Even the rear lights now work :P

Anyway the issue I have at the moment is that the main beam does not work. Side lights work, dipped headlights work but main beam does not.

How do you put them on when driving the SJ. Do you push the left stalk away from you or do you pull it towards you?
Then to flash someone do you pull it towards you or away from you?

Was wondering if here is some relay where you can do both by pulling the stalk towards you. If so where is that located so I can check that is working? Checked the wiring diagrams and cannot see any relays.

Could it be as simple as a 10A fuse that has blown? That is my next thing to check.

MOT is planned for Friday afternoon so need to sort this ASAP.

Thanks,

Rob

The headlights are fused left and right, same fuse for high or low beam. This means the fuses should be ok as it works on low beam.
You could try earthing the red wire at the connector to see if high beam works then, if it does then it should be the switch at fault. If it doesn't then is most likely the wire from the switch to the head lights.

Pulling the stalk towards you is for flashing: When you let go it should spring back. Pushing it away from you it should stay there until you pull it towards you a bit. That's for main beam.

That's how mine is anyway.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

May have fixed it :)

Took the whole stalk assembly apart and re-assembled it. So many tiny SPRINGS everywhere.

Will find out tomorrow if it works :s

Yes all fixed. Word of advice, don't take apart an indicator stalk.

They are stupidly complicated.

If you have a lot of pacience and free time go ahead.
