Easy lift options

Post by Smalljeep » Tue May 17, 2011 9:18 pm

Hi
Im going to be putting in my second 1.6 engine into my samurai because of a bad cutting job on the sump.
Anyhow im not sure on what needs to be done with the sump, im even worse at doing it, so i hear i can adjust the suspension.
Exactly what needs done to keep the suspension from hitting the 1.6 sump?

Iv got 2 & a half inch lift springs on mine and that is plenty of clearance for the sump.

thats new springs though, how does brake lines/driveshafts work with that.

im after a lift for as cheap as possible, can i just add bump stops to stop the axle going up too high?

it just sorts itself out? great.
I do drive the shite out of my anus when its going but i suppose compared to proper offroading it might not be much, how far up will the dent need to go, is there any danger of it bursting?

i got the engine in today, the sump is close to the axle, over where the plug would be:

that a bit of pipe lagging ontop of the axle my dads idea there, but we both pushed at each side of the anus to try and hit the sump but we couldnt push it down that far.
Is this where it should dent?
As for the bonnet, it closes without the pancake filter box on, but not with it on, should i use the 1.3 connection on here?

The 1.3 carb top interferes with the choke on the 1.6 carb, I modified mine using a suitably sized bit of tube welded on the bottom to raise it up, before I had the 1.3 top on it though I used the 1.6 airbox and just cut the diagonal crossmember out of the bonnet for clearance. how close does it get to closing??

like henry ive dented the sump :roll: but it hasnt caused any probs
as for bonnet clearance i done the same as scotty and welded bit of tube on the carb top to clear the choke and then cut a hole in the bonnet and used this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Bonnet-Air-Ve ... 3a5f85eb32" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i plan to add an su carb soon so im not overly concerned about the bonnet a bit of string can be used to hold it down.
