Yeah if have removed all the shims and still have movement on the king pin bearings then it probably would be best to replace them at the same time, make sure you keep all the shims you have removed though as you'll need to put these back in to set the bearing preload with the new bearings. Best place for kingpin bearings is simply bearings, there should be links in the axle info thread at the top of the transmission section

Re: grinding and a grunging.
thanks for the all the help guys..ive got bearings coming in the post but now need to get some shims and kimngpins sorted...gotta say i m alittle nervous about doing it but it al seems straight foreward enough
Re: grinding and a grunging.
As long as your old kingpins are in good condition, I.e. not too loose on the new bearings then you should be fine reusing them you can reuse the old shims too if they are ok.
Re: grinding and a grunging.
nice.well only 2 shims came out from the kingpin so hopefully this will be enough although i understand i may need more if i end up replacing king pin bearings also.i'll keep you posted matey.dont mean to be a pain or owt but if i get stuck would you mind me giving u a call for some advice..i intend doing the work this saturday if my bits come in time...which they should
Re: grinding and a grunging.
Might be worth getting a few more then! I probably have some spare ones if you have any trouble finding some.
and I will PM you my number.

Re: grinding and a grunging.
Ok nice one.when i say only 2 shims came out that was one from top and one from bittom.I don't think I'll have time now to get done by sat now so if I do need some I'll let u know..the bearings I got were from the link you posted on eBay.all the blurb says they're ok.I hope this sorts it.tho I had to take it for a wee spin last night and it was all over the show .brakes buying weirdly, steering all over the gaff.the guy in local garage now suspects something else might be wrong..I've only had the bleeding thing 2 weeks.. Damn it !!
Re: grinding and a grunging.
Sjs aren't the best handling things in the world but they are fun! If the wheel bearing is loose then you will get bad handling and interesting brakes! I personally would tighten up the wheel bearing quickly if you need to drive it around for the next few days and dont have time to replace it at the moment.
a few other things to check are all the steering joints and box for play, chek the U bolts are tight and check all the spring bushes look ok.

Re: grinding and a grunging.
as for the wheel bearing, mine was loose so i kept tightening it and tightening it and then i decided to replace it (which was surprisingly easy) and the race was all scored and worn,
