Hey

Post by Turb() » Tue Dec 28, 2010 8:02 pm

Hey Gang, Ive posted a few times on here already but thought I should introduce myself.
I live in Bristol and have only off-roaded a few times. I think the SJ looks just as wicked on road as it does off :p
I sold my SJ about 6 months ago to fund a daily driver, which I do now realise was a massive mistake

This is a pic of my old SJ

Image

1.6 8v vitara engine, 2" lift shackles, weber carb, custom stainless snorkel, bucket seats, roll hoop and removable hard top, plus a few lights all added by myself.

Then a few weeks ago a mate of mine rang me up and said he knows someone selling another SJ and wondered if I was interested, well I thought it would be rude not to at least go and have a look. So along I went, instantly fell in love and had it away :)

No pictures at the moment, as by the time I get home from work it is pitch black lol.
But its a sky blue colour pickup, all standard as far as I'm aware besides the pickup bit. The guy I bought it off reckoned its a 1.3 but Im sure its a 1 litre. Its hard to tell as I dont have the log book yet and it seems to have panels from a range of different SJ's but the dash says SJ410, the engine looks pretty diddy and its only 4 speed!
Non-the-less its a fantastic drive, really smooth and the suspension is much smoother than before, its just massively slow compared to my last one :(

Oh yeah and as I dont have the log book or MOT certificate yet I cant tax it so cant drive it anywhere yet. Boo! And I'm not holding my breath with the chap finding them either so I may just have to apply for new ones as I dont want to wait any more I want to play in the mud :p

Anyway, hopefully I will get pictures soon!

Im with Luke on this one.

A quick and easy way. If the rocker cover says SUZUKI then its a 1L

If its black and the same as your vitara one then its a 1.3

Well I HPI'd it to check its history, which shows it as being a 1.3 5 speed manual "sport" haha
But it does indeed say suzuki on top of the rocker, and it seems smaller with the fan set further back than my last one, and unless I cant select 5th its only got 4 gears.
So im assuming its had a replacement engine and/or box, or the plates are on the wrong car haha :p

EDIT: the onld one was a minter, if you look closely at the pic the bottom edge under the passenger door rotted where the plastic bit clips on, but not the main body. And that was the only spot of rust bar a tiny weeny little rust hole on the end of the bonnet

Well i hope its all legit for your sake, It may be worth checking the chassis number relates to the logbook when you get it....

If its a 1.3 sport It should be a samauri you can tell sammy chassis from the 413/410 chassis by the the leaf spring shackles on the front, on a 410/413 they are in line with a chassis rail (each shackle plate lines up with the box section of the chassis) wheras the sammy chassis has them outboard (due to the wider axles) only one plate will line up with box section of the chassis...

It wouldn't surprise me if it has a 410 chassis as the 410 engine doesn't fit in the 413 or the sammmy with out making new engine mounts, and you said it seems to have been messed about with alot,

Too add to this, Sammys have indicators just in front of the door, rather than on the side of the front wing. It should also say "SAMUARI" on the dash passenger side. along with this the clocks are different, and the steering wheel.

Like Luke said get it checked out

:welcome: to scuk matey, I'm just down the road in corsham and we have a few members in the brizzle area 8-) I just replied in your lock set thread ;) if its a 410 it will also have a side draught carb not a down draught (mounted on top of inlet) carb. I wouldn't worry either way the 970cc is a cracking little engine.

Cheers, I just replied to you too ;)
I'm not that bothered either way really but it would probably be useful to know for service parts etc
