Fuel Tank
Fuel Tank
My question today concerns Samurai fuel tanks. I have a Santana Samurai with a mechanical fuel pump.
At this point I am assuming that I have a Spanish quarter turn cap rather than a Japanese screwed cap.
I have not dropped the tank yet to verify this.
Can I swap a screwed type tank with a quarter turn? Is it only the caps that are different, tank size and fixings being identical?
As ever any information appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Fuel Tank
The tank will physically fit and bolt in. In that way they are the same.
However the sender units for your fuel gauge are different and are not compatible if you want a working fuel gauge.
A Spanish sender doesn’t work with Japanese electrics and vice versa a Japanese sender doesn’t work with Spanish electrics (Japanese senders also don’t have the low fuel light)
I have modified a Spanish (quarter turn) sender unit to fit into a Japanese tank before but it would be much better to just buy the correct tank if you are buying an new one.

May I ask how this was achieved please? thanks.

Re: Fuel Tank
Sorry it was probably around 15 years ago I did it so don’t have any pictures but I don’t remember it being very complicated.
Re: Fuel Tank
OK. Thanks.
Will look at system when I drop the tank out.

Re: Fuel Tank
After extensive searching found a "Spanish" fuel tank from France, but made in Canada.
Not fitted yet.

Re: Fuel Tank
With the new tank sitting in the garage I thought about whether any fuel tanks had a drain point underneath. There is a hole in the tank guard suggesting it was a thought by Suzuki.
A review online of Catcar.info showed 2 items of interest:-
09168A12005 Gasket Washer and 09247A12101 Filler plug.
Can anyone advise if they have a drain plug in their fuel tank please? Thanks
