Lj80 steering knuckle seals.

Post by mk1joe » Sun Feb 06, 2022 5:41 pm

Hello,
Currently trying to fit new steering knuckle seals on my lj80, but I'm finding it quite difficult to get the plastic/nylon/rubber seal to fit where it should... It just seems too tight to go in place and I can't think of a way to safely force it. Does anyone have any hints/tips/advice on how to make it easier?
Also the kit I bought said it was for sj's and lj's. Are the knuckles both the same?

Many thanks
Joe

Warm them in some hot water and try giving them a bit of a stretch

Thanks Robbie, good idea. I'll give it a go, and let you know how I get on.

I used the old hot water trick tonight and it definitely helped, still had to force it in quite a bit, but I'm going to leave it overnight and hopefully it will keep its shape a bit so I can take it apart again tomorrow and reassemble with silicone and felt seals.

Just out of interest where did you get them? I got a complete set from India and had no problems

Mine came from Austria. I did see the Indian ones but I assume they would take longer to come.

Did you get the Indian spring bushes aswell? I got a set of polyurethane ones from the UK, but I overlooked that they didn't come with shock bushes like the Indian kits do, so now I'm looking for matching polyurethane shock bushes, if there is such a thing...

Can’t remember how long they took, but I wasn’t in a rush so no problem there. And no mine came with spring poly bushes. The only problem I had was buying shocks from India, they were advertised as for the LJ but are for a 410

Ah, that's annoying. I know a lot of parts seem to cross over to the 410. It's hard to tell which don't though.
