Rough Starting

Post by border » Sat Feb 06, 2021 8:24 pm

SJ 410, At first start on morning or having been left for a few hours.
It starts within seconds with choke out, but will cut out unless you keep choke in or give it slight revs to keep it going, after a few minutes it will idle roughish, and for the first mile or so it will splutter on then after that it will start and run perfect all day long.
Are they all like this or is there somthing I can fix ??
Thanks

Sounds normal, ish. Depends just how rough it is. The choke is for cold starting. Allows extra air / fuel in to start it and keep a few revs on until it warms up a bit.

Once warmed a bit you knock the choke off and it should run as normal.

It does but for the first mile or so it splutters a bit then settles down, just seems to take ages before it runs normal. Gonna put a new filter on today see if that makes any difference. After cleaning tank out the last one has bits of dirt and crud in it so hopefully thats the last of it.

Just another thing, My choke will close on its own slowly when I let go of it, is this normal or should it stay out untill I push it back in ??

Took me a good 15 minuets this morning to get it warmed, It will start all day now unless I leave it for a few hours.
Anyway changed filter and there is still stuff coming through in to new one, I flushed / filtered tank out a dozen times untill nice clean petrol was coming out. Where the Hell is it coming from, cant be much left now
