Re: Shackles
They are an aftermarket shackle.
Designed to give more flex.
General opinion of most of us is they cause additional axle wobble on the road, if over stretched can fold back the wrong way or jam (yes it happens, i have a similar setup but bolted in a fixed position).
When they droop down you don’t really gain any additional traction as the wheel just hangs, no weight pushing it down.
Remove, swap for standard shackles.

Thanks Mate, will see how it drives on the road first then take it from there, just thought they looked a bit odd.Jordi wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 6:20 pmThey are an aftermarket shackle.

Re: Shackles
Presuming it has originals on the rear, fronts should be the same.

Re: Shackles
The back are again custom / aftermarket.
Just a longer version of a standard shackle. Depending on how much longer depends on how they affect the suspension and driveline angles.
Originally all 4 shackles would’ve been the same as those in my pic.

Re: Shackles
Thanks might look in to changing them for original ones. depending on how it drives , it is mainly for road use but we will do some offroading now and again, wasnt looking for a lifted thing but it was the best we could find at the time, so will persevere with it.
Getting to like these SJs now would like to do one all Origional right through, no lifts of heavy bumpers ect,

Re: Shackles
Suspension is far from standard on that as its been made spring over axle.
Originals are spring under.

Re: Shackles
Yes noticed that, my son bought it blind really from a bloke from kent only seen a couple of pics , told him it was ready for MOT, ect ect but when it was delivered it was a right dog, he wouldn't answer the phone once he was paid, just a pity he wasn't closer or we would have took it back, anyway we have replaced all discs and pads, new exhaust, welded holes in the floors, done all wiring as nothing worked, cleaned carb as it was running really rough, actually starting to look pretty decent now.
