All our tests are done in house as our QA are loyds certifiedparrotveasey81 wrote: im not too sure how they test them but was told that they cut them into sections then fold 1 back on its self antill it breaks, the metal needs to break not the weld, they x ray another bit to see if there are any imperfections and also some thing else that i cant remember
We do a pull test to stretch it till it snaps on a 10mm section and record the tons it takes,
Then freeze with co'2 to minus 80deg to do an impact test then a rockwell hardness test on and off the weld to see it hasnt cooled to quickly and gone brittle.
Im not sure what tests are done on alloy but i know its more strict and its much harder to get a good weld with no cavities .
We use stick and tig more than mig as its beter out on plant and much stronger.
