Tale of a fuel filter.

Post by maxaret » Sun Apr 28, 2019 8:35 pm

Our 2005 Vitara GV1600 has a colossal 38,000 miles on the clock,I thought it likely that the fuel filter had never been changed.
So I ordered a Mann filter online - it appeared to be the correct filter, but when I removed the old (very rusty) filter it was obvious that the new filter was a slightly larger diameter LOL.So I refitted the old one - only to find it had developed a pinhole in the rustiest part of the body and kept dripping fuel :argh: .
So have temp fitted the new filter and will have to drive 35 miles tomorrow to pick up (hopefully) the correct filter LOL (the new filter does not fit in the mounting bracket).

The point of this post is that sometimes components need replacing on calender time as well as mileage.

Was it the original fuel filter still fitted to our GV ? - probably - it is a Mikuni.

Yes indeedy Tim - I am just glad I did not leave it longer, the filter body was heavily corroded on one side/edge and would have sprung a leak at any time.
Picked up new filter this morning and just about to go and change it !

Sorry didn't reply Ju - we have been a little busy lately !
I changed it ok after picking up the replacement replacement filter, but it was just a cheapy Crosland one - I would not normally fit crosland for fuel or oil - but it was the only one I could find in stock locally : (
