Gearbox replacement

My suzuki vitara 1998 diesel needs a new gearbox. Can i swap in a gearbox from a petrol vitara?

I can't answer that (I *think* the answer is yes, I *think* the difference in gearing is down to the differentials) but I will say this:

1985 SJ413VX (SJ50V) with SPOA, rear disc brakes, 31x10.5R15 Kaiman Malatesta tyres, an MOT and a lot left to do!
