Draining Coolant
Re: Draining Coolant
Finally going to get around to doing the coolant change. The drain plug at the bottom of the radiator seems to have a plastic (handle?) bit tight,so does anyone know what size thread the plug is so that I can have a bolt handy if it breaks.
Re: Draining Coolant
Seems it's all plastic....I'm doomed.

It does, read some horror stories online of the problems getting it out if it breaks.Getting a slot head screwdriver red hot was one.

Wise move I think....still haven't gotten around to it yet!
Re: Draining Coolant
I finally got around to doing it a week ago, filled it with the heater running, let it rest then took it for a run afterwards the level needed topping up a bit.Drove it this morning and put the fan on to blow some fresh air,but even with the lever on cold the air was warm.Got stuck in traffic and the temp gauge started to creep up.Dropped again on the run home, when I checked the levels they're fine.Is it likely to be air somewhere in the system?
Re: Draining Coolant
Sounds like it, take the cap off, and push a tight fitting funnel into it, fill the funnel up and run the engine, keep squeezing the pipes until there is no air.
If this doesn't work, try flushing the heater matrix - take both pipes off it, push the hose pipe over the end (it's a perfect fit) and run water through it, you'll be surprised the amount of crud that comes out.
