Wont start no Fuel or spark - but perfect yesteerday

Post by NeilP » Fri Nov 23, 2018 9:43 am

Thinking this is electrical intermittent issue.

Wondered if any one has seen this before.

You can crank the car all day, tow it and it wont start or fire.

Squirt ether in to the inlet manifold and it does not fire. No spark.

Plugs are not getting wet either, no fuel coming in .it will not flood

Seems very much to me like something is not turning on .

Tried two keys, both chipped keys, both work in the past

In the passed this has happened too, and come back the next day and if starts on the first turn of the key.

It was running fine the day before.

Do these motor have some fuel cut off to the ' carb' ( is it a carb or some fancy injection system ?)

had one suggestion of main power relay to the ECU...where would I find that? or does it even exist on these motors?

Totally at a loss with all this electronic shit...never seen a 'carb ' with so many connections on it

I believe that by 1999, Suzuki was using the G16B engine with fuel injection. That "carb" is probably actually a throttlebody. As such, if you lost fuel *and* spark at the same time, it's likely to be an ECU issue - but I don't know anything about ECU's. I don't even know if your ECU has an OBD2 port for diagnostics. Rhinoman is most likely to know, he's the ECU guru. Or Darrel, he's the resident wiring diagrams hero.

Yes, did wonder about that throttle body.

I am actually surprised to see a reply to my post. All the indications when I posted it , told me th epson failed to post with a server error and File Access not allowed. Only cam back this morn gin to try and post again.

My knowledge is based on old diesel tractors and carb motorbikes..all this ECU stuff...uuugggghh.

So I need to look for an OBD2 port

I did hear a suggestion that there is a main power relay to the ECU and that can fail..need to either start digging about , find relay box or similar I guess.

Getting a schematic is going to make this easier.

Local 4x4 group on FB got back to me with promise of a manual last year..best I chase him up for it.

Hopefully the two you mention might see this and chip in.

Dont spend too long looking for an OBD2 port as im pretty sure the old vits didn't have them ;)

Ah thanks

Not seen anything today, though I do seem to remember a mobile mechanic ( now no longer operating :( ) a few years ago plugging in somewhere and telling me that fuel flow and air flow etc were all 'good' within spec. I was thinking it was burning way way too much fuel . Crazy when a little engine like this is less economical ( costs more to rum per mile, than a 192=82 4 litre dies land cruiser!

Down under the dash (passenger side I think) mounted next to the ECU there will be two relays, one for the fuel pump (pink wire gives this one away) and one for the ECU, try changing the ECU relay, its a cheap and simple thing to try.
