Suzuki SJ413 LWB Build

Post by kempify » Sun Mar 05, 2017 6:14 pm

Hello All,
I am new to the forum but I have been following all your builds and have seen what a great place this is to share projects.

Therefore, here is my 1992 Suzuki Samurai SJ413 LWB

I picked it up in Guernsey back in November 2015 and brought it back home (Guildford) via the ferry. I believe it was originally in the UK before it went over to Guernsey. From first impressions it looked like a real tidy little zuk, runs really well, done about 80k on the clock, SOA conversion and apparently has had a new engine put in it at some point by the owner before last. But upon getting it home and ripping out all the carpets I found a few more issues (RUST!) than I'd hoped for. But hey ho, that will teach me for not giving it a proper check before I brought it. Anyway, I've always wanted to restore something so I guess this is my chance.

I shall try my best to upload as many pictures on the way. Any advice is more than welcome. I don't have any experience really but I am willing to learn :weld: . I just like to get my hands dirty and see where that gets me.

Unfortunately, I'm just heading into my busy season with work so I'm not sure how much progress I will make over the next 4 months but I shall do my best.

All the best,
Andrew

Welcome to the club. Looks like a nice motor.

Sure Albatross74 was a tin top though.

He bought a lwb as well, not sure he ever posted pics of it but it did have a dodgy engine so if it's been changed it's probably this one

Well all that it needs to do is be road worthy and be fit for general farm use... but it is a little way off from being either of those atm due to rust. I have got the body off now and I am assessing the work.
Photos to follow soon! As soon as I can master resizing them to below 1mb! :bawling:

Plan A is to fix the rust
Plan B is to swap the body with another (non running) SJ413 I have on the farm. It has next to no rust :doublethumbs: but it is left hand drive... So a little bit of modifying would be needed.
(The second zuk has been left in a field for the last 15+ years after something went wrong with the engine so I'm surprised its got hardly any rust from what I can see atm. I'll be pulling all the carpets out soon just to check before going ahead) Its a little dented but nothing major.

Does anyone know if it will be just a straight swap? Will all the body mounts line up even though one is Japanese and the other one is Spanish? They are both LWB...

Everything stripped out!
Most of the body mounts were seized which made it a little more difficult but I am pretty happy with the progress. :doublethumbs:

That's not that bad  I've repaired worse.

The bodies will swap straight over, you'll just need to tweak the bulkhead for the the dash, column and pedals etc but that's super easy.
