Grand vitara G16b engine ignition timing
Grand vitara G16b engine ignition timing
Ive done some checks with OBD scanner and found at tickover the timing is 8 degrees before top dead centre. According to the workshop manual it should be 5 plus or minus 1
I cant find any way of adjusting the timing.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Turn the distributor slightly. 8* is correct for the 8v engines, so someone probably set that by mistake. 5* is right for the 16v.
Use a timing light when you do it to make sure it's correct

The engine appears to be the same but the throttle and air box etc seem to be different. Also mine has 2 coil packs directly above the spark plug 2 and 4

No dizzy on the GV not that year anyway.
The 5 deg bit is relevant with the test wire in place. Yours sounds fine. I can upload the relevant section if you want to confirm

Please upload the section. I simply plugged in the OBD scanner. Should i also have used a test wire?

I'll be honest, I don't even know if a UK model has a monitor connector. I've never looked for one on mine.
