Where to buy spares

Hello all,

Now that I have my new SJ I want to stock up on some spares for green lane trips etc.

I'm thinking wheel bearings, UJs, CV joints, shocks etc… or anything else that is likely to break or especially anything that could prevent me from at the very least being towed to the end of a lane for recovery.

What in your experience is an essential spare to carry with your SJ? (without having to pack the kitchen sink!!)

Also,

I’m going to change all fluids and cam belt as their history is unknown.

Any brands to recommend? Is there any idlers etc. that should be replaced with the cambelt?

TBH honest I only take spares when I'm at a weekend event at a play and play site.

Belts are the only thing I would take on an average day out.

All the other things you listed I just check on a regular basis, a few days before I go out and after.

I've never known anyone to have a failure in both front and rear axles so as long as you have tools you can just drive in either rear wheel drive or remove the rear prop and have front wheel drive with it in 4high.

Tools and some sort of jack are the main things to take.

If you keep on top of maintainance you shouldn't ever have to worry about a breakage green laning unless you are on 33"+ tyres

Got to admit, I never carried any thing in mine and never had anything go that actually stopped me from getting to the end of a lane. That's not to say noting ever broke, bearings a 2 or 3 times, but never enough to stop her moving. Cary fluids, have done in every motor 4x4 of not, and tools, cable ties, tape,fuses, bits of wire and bulbs
Not like my disco, carried everything in that.

Fan belt for sure, maybe a timing belt too
Couple of UJs just for the rear prop might come in handy
Bits of wire for electrics and emergency attaching
Clutch disc for really long journeys

Glad to hear that you can leave the house with spares. With my old discovery I never went on any trips without a spare wheel bearing!
