Hi all,
Im thinking to either go with a NODIZ system or just upgrade the coil by itself to get a bit better spark (i guess i have the original coil). Now i know i can go with a 1.3 dizzy and prob will be solved but im just wondering about a theory i have to make sure i understand what ive got.
So as it is, i have the 9v coil with a ballast resistor which i think is there to protect the coil AND points in the dizzy. If i put in a 12v coil off another car or a sammy and move the ballast resistor AFTER the coil so the voltage drops to 9v as it goes into the dizzy and so only "protects" the points, will this work?
Cheers!

Just fit a 1.3 coil and dizzy and loose the points....it's the logical thing to do. I'm not sure your idea will really work.

The resistor lowers the voltage by being connected in parallel with the coil. In series I think it will just get hot.
Should go megajolt and EDIS isntead of NODIZ... £260 just for the NODIZ ECU, you might as well buy a microsquirt for that... they arent much more expensive

I have to ask why would you want to spend that much money on an ignition system for an F10? i think you have lost the plot makes so much more sense to just fit a better engine
Re: Changing to a 12V Coil (SJ410)
better engine here is 700 euro plus as i need the sammy box....... if there was a better engine that would go with my box, even with an adapter, i would be v interested... but alas there isnt... upgraded ignition would be a supporting mod for boost at a later stage

Surely its connected in series with the dizzy to drop the voltage to 9V, its then bypassed during starting to increase voltage to the coil.twiss wrote:The resistor lowers the voltage by being connected in parallel with the coil. In series I think it will just get hot.
Personally I'd go with the 413 setup to get rid of the points but in the old days I had a lot of success with a transistorised ignition and a high-output coil. Mostly we used Boyer Bransden unit but I also had good results from a Sparkrite and a Mobelec. The points last longer and you do get a better spark - additional power is debatable but the engines did run smoother.
