Hey, that body sits nicely on the SJ chassis. I know what you mean about needing 5th. I've got the same set up as you. According to the previous owner, you can squeeze 70 out of it, but we got to 60 and decided the old girl didn't want any more

The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

60/70? Holy moly. We've not got anywhere near that. 50 tops before it sounds like the engine's going to explode!
Wrong section, I know but, is fitting a 5 speed box an easy job?

I won't lie, at 60 she was screaming. We didn't think 70 was safe, for both us and the 26 year old truck.SJ-Mini wrote:60/70? Holy moly. We've not got anywhere near that. 50 tops before it sounds like the engine's going to explode!

As for the gearbox, as I understand it, as far as fitting is concerned, it's the same as the 4 speed externally. I don't know what it's like to get them in and out. Might need the engine mounts undoing and the engine easing forward slightly to make room, or the t-box, I dunno.

Think it's time for some homework!
Re: Hello from Derbyshire!
A 410 should do 70, yes it will be screaming but trust me the engine can handle it! I once got 73mph (gps) with mine on 30" tyres. fitting a 5 speed is nice and easy, it has to be a 410 5speed though as the 413 has a bigger bellhousing and wont fit. It shouldn't take longer than an hour to fit either, I can change a clutch on my own in under an hour For what it's worth though there isn't that much difference, you need to be doing 50mph to be able to accelerate in 5th if you run 30" tyres, it will trundle around at 30 in 5th but dont expect it to move when you put your foot down I must admit it was better for dual carriageways, big A-roads and motorways though. well until you got to even the slightest of hills that is
Re: Hello from Derbyshire!
Any idea what the ratios are for the 4 and 5 speed boxes?
