Engine bogs down when sticking foot down.

Post by Beardy89 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 1:31 pm

I've got a 1995 Sammie with a 1.6Vitara SPI engine.

the engine bogs when ever I stick my foot down, hesitates for a second and then picks up and off it goes.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for?

Things Ive done:

New HT Leads
New Spark Plugs
New Lambda Sensor

One thing ive read is that it could be caused by too much air intake.
I have added a snorkel and removed the airbox and simply put a Cone filter ontop of the snorkel tube. Could this be letting too much air in?

could be a vacuum leak somewhere, check all the pipework on and around the spi system and inlet manifold.

Changing the filter shouldn't cause an issue, however I think it's best to run the snorkel though an airbox then into the inlet, snorkel tops always seem to get ripped off, so if yours gets ripped off you are no longer going to have a filter.

Do the 1.6's have a sensor on the airbox like the Jimny's?

My guess is is a vacuum pipe as well mate there's a few lurking around the carb on spi engines, get a metre or 2 of vacuum pipe and replace it all hopefully it should cure your problem.
